Ok so here's my thinking - Brundle and Coulthard are perhaps too restrained to work well as F1 commentator pairing. With Murray Walker and to a lesser extent James Allen (much as I disliked his commentary), they had an enthusiasm, Murray in particular having the ability to make the dullest Hungarian GP sound like 24 cars being within 1 second going into the last lap. So will it work?

Oh, and just for Dredd (the EJ hater) how about replacing Eddie with Mark Blundell? I thought Blundell did a good job on ITV.
Trev I'm disappointed in you!!!

No one will ever be as good as Murray Walker was at commentating, no one so it's unfair to make any comparrisons to him!!

Of course it'll work, especially Brundle now as the main commentator. Leggard annoyed me so much when he kept cutting across Brundle in mid speach as Brundle is exciting when allowed to be.
With Coulthard I understand your concerns, but as co-commentator it's not as important to be excitable, so yes it will work.

A big no for Blundell though, he would be worse than EJ, and that is hardly possible.
Totally agree, Blundell bored me silly. He was ITV's "Eddie Jordan" to Jim Rosenthal and Tony Jardines "Jake and DC"

I think you're worrying too much trev. While the commentary might not be as enthusiastic to let rookie viewers know when something good is happening, I reckon it'll be all the more fantastic for F1 fans as Brundle and DC's insight and expertise are let loose.

And Murray Walker was good, but his last 2 or 3 years were embarrassing.
No more so than his previous 40-50!
Blundell used to get on my nerves. I'm not exactly a grammar Nazi, but the way he used to come up with completely illogical sentences, and continually muddled the words 'which' and 'that' up with 'what' really got annoying.

But hey, it'll be interesting to see how Brundle gets on as main commentator. Part of me is slightly concerned the dynamic won't be quite right, as Brundle's been one of the best expert commentators of all time. But then DC knows his stuff and isn't afraid to call a spade a spade, so it may just work out.

And failing that, I can always grab the R5L commentary instead.
Big Grin

That's exactly what I was going to say about Mark "Wot" Blundell, but I couldn't honestly think of how he used to do it. I spent 10 minutes thinking of sentences that he'd say and make it sound funny but sticking in an off kilter "wot", so in the end I never bothered.

But he does say "wot" a lot.
*BIG BUMP*

Well well well trevor, look who's wrong, EH !?!?!
Yup, I give full credit to Brundle, he HAS been excellent. I'm not totally sold on DC, but he has been better than I expected.

Never watch North American sports then! There's some hum dingers out there! Big Grin
My biggest fear is that Blundell will get hired by Sky for there coverage, sods law that Brundle / DC work well together and will most likely end up staying with BBC.
The only straw I'm grasping at is that Brundle on Twitter said that he only had a contract with the BBC until the end of this season, so come on Sky get him and DC signed up.
