What's So Good About BioShock?

What's So Good About BioShock?
I'm currently only at Neptune's Bounty, but I can't see why the game is revered as the best game ever all the time. It doesn't seem as good as Dead Space, which was also 10/10. I'd give it so far a 7/10.

What do you think?

The story IS very good, gameplay excellent and some great ideas, with things like plasmids. There is absolutely no replay value to it though. I'd say 7-8/10.

I like you Joe, I really do. I wasn't sure about you at first, but then you won me over. But you're a fucking idiot for that.

You're barely into the game man, come back when you're finished and tell us what you think.

What you've done there is played the Great Deku Tree and gone, "Is that it? That was a bit piss easy." without sampling the delights of the Water Temple or Spirit Temple.

*and all the Zelda fans nod their heads*

Bioshock is more than worthy of the top score. You just need to keep playing to find out why.

And I'd say it's got 3 different replays worth in it trev. Play 1 is the first time you play it, play 2 on hardest difficulty, and play 3 for the completionists, getting all audiotapes, upgrades, tonics etc.

RE: What's So Good About BioShock?
there's been very few games with the moral issues you face in bio shock, or with condemned excepted very few with as much atmos I'd say. I'm nodding my head at the Deku Tree analogy like the churchill dog. The game was compelling to finish even if you only wanted to see what happened.

I would agree with Trev a little on the replay value though. I only played it once, and harvested pretty much all the way through, so the replay for me would have been to not harvest, but to save. But I couldn't be arsed for a different ending...

Now if BS2 carries on from your BS1 save game and they know which way you went, or if you have done both ways alows you to choose a future path that could be worth a replay in the coming weeks, but I've chipped it in, and there's no chance of me re-buying, so no chance of a replay.

In terms of the completionist I don't really care about all audio tapes, tonics etc, so the replay value is lost.

The screams though are great, and the audio really does build up the atmos. Just like in Condemned.

Oh no swifty, Bioshock was the first game I've ever played where the experience was so great, I felt I owed it to the game to complete it to death.

Never before has a full games worth of points meant so much to me.

And it's totally worth playing for the "good" ending. Had me welling up...

I'm going for the happy ending on my first playthrough. I'd rather get the gifts from Tennebaum than a little bit of extra ADAM (it's only about 2780 extra Adam in the whole game, apparently.)

I'm warming to it at the moment, but the plot in parts is SO PREDICTABLE.

Name one game that ain't.

There are some special moments to be had, and it would be a terrible thing indeed if we were to list them, so enjoy the game.

I wish I could play it with a fresh set of eyes again, give my burgeoning alzheimers a few decades, and I'll be doing exactly that Big Grin

RE: What's So Good About BioShock?
When I first played it, the intro was amazing but then I got bored (very bored) with the initial shooting/dodging stuff and seriously thought of stopping by the time I got to the garden bit. Thankfully I stuck with it as the story is one of the best you'll ever play. Without the story I reckon it'd be just a regular game, albeit good looking, but I loved the twists and turns in the end.
