RE: The Walking Dead
As of right now Ryan, I'd take it off. I'll form a better opinion of the show as it progresses, but if you've seen 28 Days Later, you really don't need to see The Walking Dead.
I just hope it gets better.

RE: The Walking Dead
I really, REALLY enjoyed it.
I'm something of a zombie nerd anyway and am so pleased to see proper shamblers rather than 28 Days Later style 'infected'. I know old school zombies have fallen out of favour lately, but I for one am delighted to see the flesh eaters back on the screen. Yes, I know they can run, but it's all done with the grace of the decomposing corpse, so it's fine. I'll grant you it does open up much like the aforementioned 28 Days Later, but I'm confident it will broaden it's scope as it moves on. I don't quite get the 'sedate' criticism since pretty much every quality zombie film ever made has been quite slow paced until the action set piece at the end. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later etc. I found the pacing of Walking Dead to be spot on. Start out with a few zombies, throw in some human drama with the father and son, and finish with a massive army of zombies. What's wrong with that? The only thing I don't like at the moment is Lori (Rick's wife). She's not done much in the show so far but she already has that look of someone who's really going to annoy the shit out of me. It's a shame because I quite liked her in Prison Break. There's very little I watch on TV, let alone look forward to, but The Walking Dead has proven to be up there in the 'can't wait till next week' category. I've read the first issue of the comic and really enjoyed that, so I knew what was coming in the first episode. I have to say it seemed incredibly faithful to the source material. Almost shot for shot. But I haven't read any more issues so I couldn't say if this continues or if the programme makers have diverged as the series continues. If anyone wants to check it out, it's available FREE on the iTunes store. Look for the 'Image Comics' and there's a free viewer for the iPod on there and you can (or at least could) download issue 1 for free. Admittedly it's still early days and like Dredd is sticking with and may sing a different tune by the end, I too may well be saying "Well it started well..." in a few weeks. ![]()

RE: The Walking Dead
I though Episode 2 was pretty shit too, and here's why.
The start - I hate his wife and best buddy, and I want them to die. I said I hated the way the writers have made Ricks wife and best buddy get it on just to introduce some conflict later on when they are all reunited, but I justified it in my own mind as maybe this was just a response to their situation - she thought her husband was dead, he comforted her, things have led to another in a short space of time. But no, the first 5 minutes show them to be just a couple of bastards who like to fuck. I want them dead, so for me, there will be no conflict. The cliches. Ep 2 was Dawn Of The Dead Lite - in a department store instead of a shopping mall. And there's always a guy like Michael Rooker's character just to upset the balance of people wanting to survive. When I saw his name in the opening credits I thought he'll make this interesting, but no, just some ignorant white supremacist gun nut who goes psycho. It even ripped off I Am Legend, but instead of a red GT 500KR Mustang roaring though empty streets, it was a red Dodge Charger. But the thing is, I Am Legend dealt with the fear of the situation better. In I Am Legend, you see Will Smith locking down his safehouse at nights, no lights, no noise, sleeping in a bathtub with a cover over him. That's terrifying that you need to go to such extraordinary lengths to survive. These guys in The Walking Dead are quite happy to give themselves away any time. In episode 1 they had poorly covered up windows in a house full of candles - now I know zombies ain't all there, but they would notice that. My main problem is there is nothing that I haven't seen done better in 28 Days later, Dawn Of The Dead, Shaun Of The Dead and I Am Legend, and certainly not in any amount of poorer zombie movies. If it's doing well by the majority of viewers, good on it, but right now, it's entirely forgettable for me. It just surprises me how well horror fans seem to be responding to it.

RE: The Walking Dead
Its an ok show to pass time intill something better comes along..
After the 1st episode i thought this would be good... 2nd episode what happend (i tryed telling someone who missed it at work what went on and the story never really went anywhere in it? he met new people people and they were stuck in a mall) next weeks looks good mind! and a big disapointment for me in episode 2 was.... Since when did zombies start running and climbing fences!!!!! This show shouldn't re-write what they should be able to do or not... just stick to the basics please. ![]() |

RE: The Walking Dead
So The Walking Dead is a poor tv show, not because of any of the reasons I gave, or for the more basic reasoning that the whole zombie thing is now such a tired and horribly pedestrian situation, but because they can climb a fucking fence ?!?
You're mental.

RE: The Walking Dead
Far be it for me to pull the "it's just my opinion" line, but I honestly can't see why people are loving it.
If it does something different, I'll be the first to bum it up, but it's done nothing new or of note. It's all the zombie movies I've seen before, but less than the sum of those parts.
