Fallout:New Vegas - Dead Money
The kick off to this DLC is simple enough - find the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker near Camp Forlorn Hope and enter. Once inside you are gassed unconscious and awake in the Villa of the Sierra Madre resort, stripped of all your possessions and armour and faced with tasks set by a hologram. The premise is simple enough - recruit three companions from the area and break into the casino. Of course, things are never that simple, and quickly you are introduced to the Ghost people that inhabit the area. These enemies are not overly challenging but have some attacks that can cause a fair bit of damage, particularly if you are used to having decent armour on. Once the companions are recruited you have to guide them to a location each to perform tasks that will enable you to enter the casino. Once inside more simple tasks have to be completed, mostly unkillable security holograms notwithstanding, to allow access to the vault, and a confrontation with Father Elijah, the man behind your tasks. The quest itself is not difficult, however a lot of patience is required when playing the quest as you are fitted with an explosive collar, which can be triggered by radio interference from radios, ham radios and speakers. Radios & ham radios, if found in time, can be deactivated, speakers only by shooting them and there are some which cannot be shot. As the interference can occur when you are in close proximity to a speaker, whether it can be seen or is in another room, some sections degenerate into dashes of hope, before your head blows up. The actual quest is very short, requiring only a few hours play, but the collar frustrations, combined with an occasionally vague idea of where you should be going, extends it beyond the actual playtime. A resonable addition then, with a couple of new weapons to interest, the Holorifle and the Automatic Rifle, but ultimately only for the committed Fallout fan. Compared to Fallout 3 DLC, its probably on a par with Operation Anchorage, but as that was 4th best of the 5 F3 DLC, not great.
Overall 5/10 ![]()

RE: Fallout:New Vegas - Dead Money
I have bought it, but I haven't tackled the mission yet. I got it primarily for the level cap for the time being.
I've heard the mission itself isn't up to much, but I'll give it a crack next time I'm playing. ![]()

RE: Fallout:New Vegas - Dead Money
Not far is how far you'll probably get. Some of the "Ghost People" are tough S.O.B's, and even with a L20+ character they still pack a punch.

RE: Fallout:New Vegas - Dead Money
I've been posting a lot lately about DEAD MONEY in various threads and have stated on many occasions how it was the worst piece of DLC for either Fallout game. Well, the other night I finally finished it and whilst I still think it is the least enjoyable DLC, it's not without character.
As Trev previously described, you begin by waking in the courtyard of the Sierra Madre resort. Your initial task is to round up three other collar wearing 'inmates', all of who's lives are linked to your own survival. Once all three are rounded up you then need to take them all to different designated points on the map. Here is the first problem. Having dragged your arse around the streets of the resort for the first hour to find these people you then need to spend the next two backtracking to where they need to be for the mission. Sometimes this can mean going back through where you originally found them! This artificially lengthens the adventure but not in a good way. However once everyone is in place and the mission reaches the end of it's second phase you do start to get a little interested. The final phase is within the casino itself and funnily enough this isn't quite so bad. It's here that you finally start to get some answers on the people and places of the Sierra Madre and by the time you have reached the finale you run the risk of almost enjoying it. It took a while to get through the final act mind you, especially with arms full of heavy, heavy gold, but I did it. I'm now back in the Mojave desert, with 37 gold bars that no one can afford to buy! It's strange. I really can't say this was first class DLC. It's very repetitive with the streets sections being very tiresome, but by the end I had warmed significantly to it. So much so that I was almost reluctant to leave at the end. It's funny, Father Elijah says that the Sierra Madre gets hold of you and many ways it did to me. I'll give it a 6. ![]()
