What Do You Do Away from the Console?
I am assuming folks on here don't just play on their consoles for 15 hours per day (I have allowed 1 hour to eat and 8 hours sleep there
)So what do people do away from the controller? I'm a systems admin for a law firm and play ice hockey. Also do a bit of photography and play some guitar (not very well) Romanes Eunt Domus ![]() Twitter http://www.twitter.com/RobMcGregor35 Blog http://onepuckshort.wordpress.com |

RE: What Do You Do Away from the Console?
I'm currently at college doing a BTEC in IT.
apart from that I'm a shift manager in a convenient store and I juggle, I occasionally pick up the Ukulele but I haven't in a while because I've been stressing about college work or having too much fun playing video games. I watch a lot of Anime and read a lot of Manga but I don't like to read/watch too much because I don't feel like I'm doing anything productive. I also dabble in programming which I can get lost in for long periods of time. Oh and I have a girlfriend which seams to absorb time (time I could be using to play games) ![]() "I am a woman of science and Ass kickary, not children's beverages" |

RE: What Do You Do Away from the Console?
I work as a support worker with adults with severe learning disabilities, that need 24 hour support.
I live with my girlfriend. I too can juggle, also use a fire staff and breath/eat fire and some fakir stuff. I've walked on hot coals as well. Watch a lot of anime and Japanese films and tv. Just finished Kamen Rider: Kiva, which is one of the best series I've ever seen. Karas is quite good, effects are amazing but story bored me a little, just like GaoGaiGar. And I collect Transformers. A lot. I've actually run out of display space now. ![]() "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." - Seneca the Younger (4 b.c.- 65 a.d) |

Yeah, I've got a few of the Ghibli films (My GF Loves Totoro), I've also got quite a few of the popular series like Naruto, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist and Bleach, but I like some of the lesser known ones as well like Full Metal Panic (and the 2nd series FUMOFUU), Excel Saga and Paranoia Agent, and obviously the stuff that got me into all this when i was young was Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing. I've got more manga and will usually buy the manga over the anime, I get quite lazy with my anime (I've got the most recent bleach manga but I'm about 5 dvd boxes behind on the anime) I still enjoy stuff like Pokemon, Digimon and Monster Rancher, and will usually buy something that I haven't got if I have the money, I vary rarely download anime to watch unless I can't find it anywhere like Panty & Stockings with Garterbelt. I need new shelfs as I've got one filled up with manga (over 300 of them) ![]() "I am a woman of science and Ass kickary, not children's beverages" |

RE: What Do You Do Away from the Console?
I do hope (and assume) that you watch them subbed, Gothic... :-)
I used to buy Chinese pirates from Chinatown near Soho. £15 a pop, in Japanese with Chinese subtitles, sometimes for a single 23 minute episode (it was pot luck, sometimes). That's how I first got into Dragonball Z (ED!!!). I miss the Japanese television adverts that sometimes were included. Has anyone seen Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Ranmei, Trigun, Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex, or the actually very good GunGrave series? Some of my favourite animes right there. Oh, and anyone whos thinking of seeing Black Swan, check out Perfect Blue instead. It handles similar subject matter, but does it so much more intelligently. ![]() "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." - Seneca the Younger (4 b.c.- 65 a.d) |

I know a couple of people who are "You HAVE to watch it subbed! its the only way!" but they also don't actually pay for their anime, I do so i feel that I can choose to watch subbed or non-subbed, I don't have anything against subbed. I've got some Trigun and Ghost In The Shell: Standalone and movies, but the rest are on my "to watch" list, along with a thousand other. I subscribe to Neo mag (a sister mag to the gamer.tm ones) which is an Asian culture mag, talking about Anime, Manga, Films, Music and Games (and sometimes food), they are always talking about new Manga and Anime that I want. If I ever get off my lazy ass I'm hoping to learn Japanese which might encourage me to watch non-dubbed more often, but until I can understand what they are saying I'll stick with English. Although my laptop has usually got the Japanese language pack installed so I could type in japanese if i wanted to (apparantly I forgot to install it last time my laptop spazzed out so I don't have it at the moment and I don't have enough space to install it ether.=[ ) ![]() "I am a woman of science and Ass kickary, not children's beverages" |

RE: What Do You Do Away from the Console?
It's not that I have anything against dubbing per se; it's just that the American dubs, almost without exception, are so fucking ludicrously abysmal that I can't even find the words to discribe how it makes me feel even attempting to listen to it.
I have genuinely, literally been made to feel sick before now. American dubs are an aural atrocity without equal. ![]() "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." - Seneca the Younger (4 b.c.- 65 a.d) |

RE: What Do You Do Away from the Console?
You play Ice Hockey, Duff ? I have to admit, I wondered if you were a UK-er when you said that, Ice Hockey ain't exactly up there in the UK is it, and you play it ?? That's a very specific sport to play, it's not as if you can play it on any old bit of grass, you need a god damned ARENA !
But here's my response to the original post, seeing as how the thread's been HIJACKED by anime fans * I'm a Monumental Sculptor - don't let the name fool you, I'm not Rodin, there's very little "sculpting' goes on. I make headstones, and I'm fairly skilled with my hands. I put that in there so someone can come along after me and reply with an "always knew you were a wanker" retort. But yes, headstones, the good thing being that I'll never run out of customers - job for life fuckers ! I'm married with 2 kids and that's where my time is taken up. when I get home from work each day I'm on daddy duty till 8 every night, when the little darlings fuck off to bed allowing me to sit and seethe my way through whatever soap or repeat of Come Dine With Me the wife is watching Any spare time I get after that, when I'm not knackerd or on a promise, I jump on the xbox, and while the whole family thing could be considered a poor excuse by many who'd say if I wanted a hobby or to partake in something outwith my heavy routine I'd find the time for it, I say simply this - Piss off you childless bastards, I hope you die having fun bungee jumping or go-karting. For a guy like me, there literally is not enough hours in the day, which also means I'm booked on the first flight to Mars - might get something worthwhile done in a 35 hour day. Any micro pockets of time in between working, family and xbox I usually try and get some reading done of whatever book I've got lying around, or a listen to the library of podcasts I have built up through not having enough time. Oh, and I'm into F1. *Katsushiro Otomo FTW and Cyber City Odeo 808 was pretty cool too
