RE: Falling Skies
I thought Serenity was a little watered down compared to the series, still a great film mind and it made me look at River in a whole new way. Mainly a pervy way.
My mate attended the premiere and the cast Q&A afterwards, he sent me a load of photo's that I've still got somewhere. A quick search and it looks like the film broke even at the cinema but must have turned a profit with DVD sales etc, obviously not enough of a success to warrant more investment. Like you say Dredd, you just can't get your head round why it was cancelled, I've never spoken to anyone who had a bad word to say about it let alone dislike it.

Joel, how did the series compare to the books? How many did they cover in the first series, just one book? Probably more likely to crack on with the next series knowing the success of the first and the fact there's only a finite amount of material to go on.

RE: Falling Skies
It was a bit of a three pronged affair!

SPOILERS (Highlight to read)

The Stark's and the Lannister's were about to have an almighty dust up over the removal of Ned's head and Joffrey taking the throne.

The night's watch were off into the wilds after a few white walkers showed up, for a dust up.

The Khaleesi woman made her eggs hatch after Khal Drogo died, I expect a dust up to ensue.

END SPOILERS

Sorry for the thread hijack!

RE: Falling Skies
Ive seen it but the final and penultimate episode were biggies although the promise of the evil in the first episode failed to materialise.

RE: Falling Skies
ahh that is the first book.....went and did a bit of googling and found out that

A Clash of Kings is being adapted for television by HBO as the second season of its successful adaptation of A Game of Thrones.[1] Filming began in July 2011, and the show is expected to air around April 2012.

g.r martin has done 5 of the 7 books in the song of ice and fire series... game of thrones-1,a clash of kings-2,a storm of swords-3,a feast of crows-4,a dance with dragons-5

the cliffhangers you mentioned are faithfull to the book...the books are all about a 1000 pages some even more so plenty of material....tyrion lanniester and the kerys lady of the dragons are my fav characters...
i look forward to getting this on dvd..

RE: Falling Skies
Retro, yeah the last 3 were brilliant, the penultimate episode I watched again as soon as it finished the first time! I think there's a big build up to the promise from the first episode. Winter is closing in!

Joel, cheers for the info, I may go pick them up, long time to wait until April next year! Tyrion and the Khaleesi were two of my favourite characters too, plus she gets her kit off a lot and that's always a bonus.

RE: Falling Skies
I've got the final three episodes sitting on my V+ Box which I'll be watching at some point, but...

Unlike other shows that I watch such as Torchwood, Eureka, Castle or Medium, there's no desire to watch it.

When the series started I was quite open to the concept and even gave the 2 dimensional characters a chance, but it's just not gone anywhere. There's been no progression of note and although it may well come to a rousing cliffhanger at the end of the season I'm not really interested in seeing it.

I'll come back when I've watched the episodes, but I don't hold up much hope of sticking with this assuming it actually gets renewed for a second season.

RE: Falling Skies
I hope it doesn't. I'm reserving judgement until series one wraps up, but if they commission a new series, Noah Wyle is going to run out of historical conflicts to compare stuff too.

I mean, yeah, sheesh, I know you're a history teacher, but back off with the lesson !!!
