RE: The Last Book You Read
Thats probably what it is then, because I did try searching by spelling five instead of 5.
Might have to go all old skool and actually pick a proper book up. Big Grin

Does anyone use "calibre" to sort/convert stuff for their kindle/ereaders?.
You convert books/comics to the format kindle will read, mobi. then send tgem to the device, you can arrange your books and delete books etc.

RE: The Last Book You Read
No, didn't even know it existed.

I have only used the pc kindle program, and that is shite because I have 'sample' books that I can't delete, and generally it is shite for organising anything.

What is this 'calibre' and where do you get it from?

RE: The Last Book You Read
calibre is a free to download program. download it to your pc, connect your kindle (unlock if you use a password to use your kindle) then you can drag and drop things a'la itunes and convert/delete etc your kindle library. ATick next to a books title shows if its in your kindle library.

i download a lot of books of various websites (some legal of course) yet a few end up as the wrong format for kindle, this helps massivley.

So search for calibre on google, download and install.

Thanks for that, now all I need is a pm telling me where I can find all these books as I only use Amazon at the moment, and my horizons need broadening, though not to the extent that I have an urge to read 50 shades...Rolleyes

Chris Ryan - The one that got away

Loved this book, always helps when its about true events, and illustrates that whilst we think we have the best soldiers in the world, whats the fucking point if they aren't given the equipment they need.

Dredd, I will read 'Soldier 5' at some point but, he does address in the version of the book I read at the start the critism he got from the Kiwi, the problem being as Dave said (and Ryan pointed out) they split quite early on into the mission so he can't know what Chris Ryan did or didn't do. Ryan addresses the split by saying McNab and those behind held still trying to make contact with an aircraft that Ryan swears he didn't hear. Whether that is Ryan trying to protect his arse, or whether its the truth who knows. He is critical of himself for losing Vince who was going down with hyperthermia, as he said, he was mountain trained, and should have tethered himself to Vince. Ultimately though they were all pushed to the limits so I'm guessing after such a trauma it may be difficult to recollect every precise detail, hence the disagreements on the version of events.
Also in my version of the book it finishes with him going on further missions, and the effect it had on him. He states that initially the SAS management were quite anti what had happened, it was only when people above them decided to parade them as heroes that changed, and they were decorated instead.

The impression I got from Soldier 5 was that Geordie was a cock who couldn't be told.

I've seen tv shows presented by Ryan and found him to be a pleasant and informative host, not the type of person painted in the book.

RE: The Last Book You Read
The Finish- the killing of osama bin laden by mark bowden.

Thanks to Retro for this one. The first half of the book is a bit slow, but I guess thats because of my impatience wanting to read the 'bingo' bit towards the end. However it was important in that it builds the background into how they were trying to locate him, and also a more general background on American foriegn policy etc.

Any how overall enjoyed it. 8/10
