Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3

Okay, so the video above isn't an official announcement of Dead Space 3, however prior to this IGN had reported that some details had been leaked of what DS3 may contain.

Of note are that it would be set on an ice planet, that a secondary character would be a man with a scar and glowing red eyes from his RIG. All that matches up nicely to the animated comic on display here.

More information though. The man, Sgt Carver is to be a co-op partner. So that means that Dead Space 3 is to follow the Resident Evil 5 and 6 route and have a second person with you at all times.
There's some debate whether there are to be two campaigns, a single and a co-op or if Carver will be AI controlled in single player. If the latter then allow me to put my face in my hands and weep now.

Dead Space is a horror game. The first one was a brilliant example of balancing action and scares to create - in my opinion - a superior game to any recent Resident Evil. Part of the terror in the game is the sense of isolation, of being alone.
I loved the sequel too, but Dead Space 2 lost a lot of what made the first one so scary and this is in part from having a 'partner' of sorts.

Now with Dead Space 3 they're looking to have someone with you at all times. This is where they went wrong with Resident Evil 5. By having Sheva with you all the time it stopped being scary. The sense of being on your own and the terror that goes with all that was lost.
If I have to run around with either the AI or another person all the time then I can't help feel that what I'm playing will be less Dead Space, but rather a replacement for Gears of War now that EPIC have wrapped things up there.

The news that Isaac will be able to duck, take cover and roll just reinforces that fear.

I was initially excited about the video at the top, but upon reading the co-op details I can't help but be more than a little pissed off that EA feel the need to change Dead Space to appeal to the masses rather than their core fans. I want a scary game EA, not another generic third person action game. With co-op.

It's Resident Evil all over again...

RE: Dead Space 3
Havent really given dead space the time it probably deserves tbh. ive been playing resi5 on pro mode and its the worst AI experience ever. the horrir is that sheva does nothing...and i mean nothing. one hit and im fuct...she wont help, which just brings on frustration. ill get a bit further in the level only for her to constantly get in trouble. Then to top it all off, QTE bosses then add to the shit experience. I wish developers didnt make such a balls up if co-op forcing younto use real players...there are times like 3am where you can only play alone. Agree with the unscary comment having sheva alongside, its more the threat of having to protect her all the time or game over thats the biggest horror.

RE: Dead Space 3
being a fan of deadspace...if co-op is done like Rage was....seperate missions...& single player left alone...to be alone ??....

the whole thing with ds imo is that you are on your OWN..so every sound makes you jump....& twitch...shame they go down this route..as resi 5 was pants like that....

(eureka moment) just realised i can play that online now...so it should be totaly diff...Big Grin

hey wont be long b4 they release Lego dead space.....you know where they move things around with 2 diff lego people...in star wars the jedi uses the FORCE (luke).......oh wait.........

RE: Dead Space 3
Excited by the prospect of another DS but echo the disappointment of them trying to make it more mainstream. The solitude of the first made it one of the best single player games I've ever played, silly o clock, all the lights off, headphones on, i'm sure I nearly shat myself a couple of times. A magical (scary) experience.

I think the second was a little more frantic and maybe predictable in it's scares but still almost as enjoyable.

I hope they don't fuck up the third.

Talking about Resi 5, I played it through on co-op with Squirrel, he's worse than AI!

RE: Dead Space 3
I'm a big DS fan too!

Why cant they leave things alone?
The first was ace, the second was good.

You can almost see where 3 is goingSad

I'm with lion on this one as long as the coop sections are completely separate i'm inSmile Maybe each person will have their own objectives to complete and your only cross paths at certain points!

Similar thing happened with bioshock 2 the multiplayer was only ever tacked on to a singleplayer game! and the single player could of easley been released as dlc for the first game:....

RE: Dead Space 3
I'm swaying against the co-op.

I'm a huge Dead Space fan, and I reckon all the thrills and chills will be wasted as you co-op with a partner, as you inevitably talk about more mundane things as you play : football, F1, other games.

You'd half expect the necromorphs jumping out at you to apologise for interrupting your conversation.
