Subs price increase 50 percent
Hi guys long time no post!
I've seen the 50p increase, and I'm surprised it took so long in coming, but have been a bit gobsmacked by the 50 percent subs rise of a quid an issue. It used to be £30 for 15 issues (plus 2 free) but now it's £45. Which seems a bit of a big hike to me! 40 quid would be much more bareable. My subs end soon so now seriously thinking of switching to buying odd issues in the supermarket from now on instead. |

RE: Subs price increase 50 percent
He lives! Welcome back, assuming you're staying.
Thing is, although price hikes like that are a bit of a kick in the danglies, they’re probably necessary now. You monitor the ABCs quite closely, so you’ll know that mag sales are down in general. Factor in lower game sales (which in turn limits the advertising budgets game publishers are happy to throw at games) and you can probably imagine how this affects advertising spends as well. Still, once the next generation starts kicking off good and proper, the gaming population starts getting interested again, companies start spending more on advertising and the mag publishers go back to playing for market share, things might go back to the way they were. ![]() ![]() |

RE: Subs price increase 50 percent
Yeah, one of my work mates was shocked by the fact that I still by mags (Neo, Bizzare and MicroMart), but I like them, I don't want to go and hunt around for a ton of information, I don't always know what I want to know/read, and that is where the mags come in, they give me relevant information in a nice easy to process format that I can look at when I want, I usually read them on the train on the way to work, which is nice because it doesn't rely on an internet connection to read them, or a bit of tech than needs charging or anything.

RE: Subs price increase 50 percent
Welcome back. I guess the price hike was always going to happen, like others I am suprised it did not happen sooner. I am happy to continue to support this fine mag though.

RE: Subs price increase 50 percent
I've just read that 360magazine (imagine) has died a death too. It always felt like they were fighting 360gamer for the last few years (i.e. going 3-weekly, dropping the price to £2.99, and then that stupid war with which mag was gonna be the cheapest when you went £2.89).
Shame really as I would occasionally pick up a copy in asda when the mood took. If OXM, XBW and X360 are the only other mags left, then god help us. Maybe I will renew after all... I also noticed a while back that PlayGamer disappeared from the shelves. Not really surprised, it was a bit clunky, and I think a PS mag at that time was ill-advised. TBH I'd always thought that a multi-format uncooked mag may work well. Something to rival GamesTM/Edge, but with a decent amount of mobile gaming thrown in for good measure. I'd probably buy it, if it were a good read and no more than a fiver. |

I remember that little war with 360, and what a load of old bollocks it was.

RE: Subs price increase 50 percent
worked out with my amazing maths (and a calculator) that with the new increase, if you were to buy the magazine separately for 15 issues (15 issue sub is worth £45) then it would cost roughly £52, which means you would save £7 subbing, which you could spend on another 2 extra issues! So the recent increases is annoying but its still a good deal
