So, thoughts?

I have to say, I'm a little bit disappointed by the general direction of it.

I had hoped that after DiRT 3, Codies might have seen sense and kept the focus on proper motorsport. Perhaps not akin to the old-school TOCAs, but certainly more like the last-gen Race Driver games.

As it stands, it looks like we're getting a load of street, city and race courses featuring whatever muscle cars, 'track day specials' and super cars are proving popular with Top Gear UK and USA that week (just decked out in racing car paint jobs).

Don't get me wrong, it could be a really good game. But it does sound like it's edging into NFS/SHIFT territory - which would be a shame, because, y'know, we've already got NFS/SHIFT there.

Good thing Project CARS is aiming for that all-motorsports-under-the-sun niche, really. But it's a shame Codies is vacating that sector all the same.

Apparently, there won't be a cockpit view, either. Now don't get me wrong: I don't use that view much, apart from when I'm miles ahead in AI races and want to try something a little different. But again, it's a shame.

Shit! I don't use it when playing racing games (I don't think Mario Kart has that view?) but some of the "hard core" racing fans are going to be really pissed, I know a couple of guys who swear by the cockpit view...

Cockpit view is amazing.

Those few times on Forza 3 with the Chevy stock car on the ovals with LOCKED cockpit viewpoint really gave it an edge.

I doubt that making a new account would do much, if it was his account it would happen every time he posted...

Well, he has had the same thing in a different thread recently.

I've had a look around the internet, and if it's not a corrupted profile or something on his PC that's somehow blocking things, it could be a bit of missing or wonky code in the page design.

It's all part of the troubleshooting process.

I am looking forward to more news on this but like you podders I am slightly concern with the continued Americanised direction of the games.

Agreed @ Americanised nonsense.

I always remember playing Dirt 2 on the London track and the commentator blurted out to me; "c'mon lets show the Brits how it's done". Mildly amusing considering i'm actually British!

Racedriver Grid was probably the pinnacle of Codemasters greatness and the long slippery slide thru Fuel, Dirt and the F1 series perhaps suggests that, by adopting this 'commercial trashiness' approach to the racing genre, they've finally run out of ideas. Hopefully Grid 2 will emulate the most excellent prequel and i can finally turn my back on the mediocrity of Forza 4.
