Rumours that Resident Evil 5 will be a PS3 exclusive have resurfaced once more, with reports in the Japanese games media alleging that that the 360 version of Capcom survival horror epic has been dropped.
However, Capcom has itself refuted the allegations, saying the reports were erroneous and that the title will, as announced, be released on the PS3 and 360.
This isn’t the first (nor, we sadly suspect, will it be the last) time we’ve seen this sort of speculation, but could it actually happen?
While there’s no doubting that a Resident Evil 5 exclusivity deal would be a major coup for the PS3 (which has, ironically, been losing exclusives to the 360 hand over fist of late, including Devil May Cry 4), games such as Dead Rising and Lost Planet have performed well on the 360 for Capcom, and it seems unlikely that the Japanese publisher would want to sacrifice the potential earnings a 360 version of Resident Evil 5 could generate.
Either way, given how Resident Evil 5 continues to slip down the release lists, we doubt we’ll be seeing the game – on either platform – anytime soon.
