No Manhunt 2 for the Irish either [News]

Place your bets on who’s going to be next to ban Rockstar’s controversial title

Following on from news that the BBFC has today denied certification for Rockstar’s Manhunt 2 – effectively banning the title from being sold in the UK – it would appear that the Irish BBFC equivalent has also followed suit.

Angry gamers hoping to buy Rockstar’s murder sim have been looking for alternate ways to buy PAL copies of the game now the game is banned in the UK, with Ireland being a close and obvious retail route for many.

However a post on the Irish Film Censor’s Office’s website shows that it too has now chosen to restrict sale of the title, citing an unnecessary amount of unjustified violence.

The post reads: “A prohibition order has been made by IFCO in relation to the video game Manhunt 2. The Order was made on 18th June 2007 under Sec 7 (1) (b) of the Video Recordings Act 1989 which refers to acts of gross violence or cruelty (including mutilation and torture).

“IFCO recognizes that in certain films, DVDs and video games, strong graphic violence may be a justifiable element within the overall context of the work. However, in the case of Manhunt 2, IFCO believes that there is no such context, and the level of gross, unrelenting and gratuitous violence is unacceptable.”

So there we are. Where’s going to ban it next? And more important to some of you, where’s not going to ban it at all? As usual, comment below.
