Dead or Alive creator Tomonobu Itagaki has today announced that development of Dead or Alive 5 is underway.
Speaking at a press meeting in Tokyo, held in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the series, Itagaki confirmed the existence of the project and mentioned that the first play concepts are already in mind and being worked on.
Oddly, Itagaki has stated that Dead or Alive 5 will probably not feature the tag team element for which previous instalments have been known. The reason behind this is currently unclear, however, it is possible that despite being a unique selling point for the series, statistics from online play may have perhaps shown the mode to be more unpopular than you might think.
It’s also yet to be fully confirmed which platform (or platforms) will see the title, although based on recent instalments the natural assumption is that the game will be exclusive to Xbox 360.
No release date has yet been confirmed, although we wouldn’t rule out a Christmas ’07 release.
