Next-gen sales slow in Japan [News]

Yes folks, it’s chart time!

All three next-gen formats have seen a drop in sales in Japan, according to the latest Media Create hardware charts.

During the week ending 22 July, both the PS3 and 360 saw total hardware sales go down around nine per cent (to finish on 12,187 and 2,664 respectively), while the Wii saw a whopping drop of 21 per cent, with total sales during the period 86,786.

Meanwhile the DS bandwagon continued to roll, racking up a whopping 154,459 sales, nearly 13,000 units up on last week and easily taking top spot in the market. Also of note was that the PS2 continued to outpace the PS3, but with the margin down to under 2,000 units, the PS3 is now closing the gap on its predecessor.

Finally, here’s the chart in full:

1. DS Lite (154,459)
2. Wii (86,786)
3. PSP (32,894)
4. PS2 (14,059)
5. PS3 (12,187)
6. 360 (2,664)
