Further evidence pointing to an Xbox 360 release for Unreal Tournament 2007 has now come to light thanks to Play.com, who has not only confidently listed the title online for pre-order, but pointed to a release date of 1 October 2007.
So far Unreal Tournament 2007 has been spoken of as a PlayStation 3 release (and PC, obviously), however as was the case with SEGA’s Virtua Fighter 5 before the Xbox 360 announcement finally came, UT 2007 has been widely expected to be confirmed for 360 at some point.
Retailers are notorious for ‘outing’ games ahead of official confirmation, as often the release schedules they work from contain games that are due for imminent announcement.
Of course, it could just be a hilarious goof on the part of some newly employed catalogue admin, or the lazy work of an uncaring temp, but generally online retailers take care not to list titles like this without some pretty concrete information, as otherwise they run the risk of annoying any customers who decide to pre-order the title.
UPDATED:
OK, the response has come in from Midway who is unsurprisingly denying the legitimacy of Play.com’s listing (which is still live as we write) telling us: “We do not know what is happening as yet for the 360, and as yet we have not sent out any kind of announcement.”
So what’s Play.com er, playing, at then we wonder? Do they know something we don’t? And is a UT 2007 for 360 announcement imminent? We reckon so. Watch this space and, as always, feel free to speculate below.
