Forza 3 goes large [News]

400 cars, 100 circuits, two DVDs

It looks like Forza fans could well be in for a treat with Forza Motorsport 3, with well placed rumours stating that Turn 10’s next title will be so big, it will come on two DVDs.

The revelation comes courtesy of market research firm Intellisponse. Over the weekend, the security on Intellisponse’s website was breached, allowing a wealth of information about future 360 titles to escape onto the internet – including the first details on Forza 3.

According to the information (most of which has handily been posted up on the NeoGAF forums), Forza 3 is to be “an epic game.”

“Due to the number of cars and tracks included in the Forza 3 game, it will be sold as a 2-disc set,” the leaked material reads.

Specifically, the game it to included “highly detailed real-world car and track models (over 400 cars and 100 tracks),” and will cover a broad range of motorsports, such as “drag, drift, oval, point-to-point racing, etc.”

The documentation also states that Forza 3 will be a “highly accurate racing simulation, including real world damage.” That said, if you’re a bit rubbish at racing games, “a powerful assist system” is also to be included.

“Near limitless customisation options” and “a variety of online community features” are promised as well.

Predictably, downloadable content and limited edition gear was also discussed.

On the DLC front, monthly ten car packs were suggested for USD 4.99 (GBP 3.40), with a new race track being released every three months.

A larger pack could also be made available a few months after the game launched, priced USD 19.99/GBP 13.60 and comprising of 30 cars and a new real world track, which could be downloaded from Live or purchased in stores.

The usual Limited Collector’s Edition pack was also mooted, comprising of the game plus the usual array of exclusive content, such as authentic racing gear or motorsport event tickets, and would launch alongside the regular game.

One interesting idea was the release of a further version of the game a year after release. Tentatively referred to as “Forza 3 2010”, the new version would include all the cars and circuits previously released, but would also feature “30 of the coolest new 2010 cars and a new unreleased real-world track.”

The top 20 user-generated car skins would also figure, along with 2010 racing liveries for all the professional racing cars. The proposed retail price was be GBP 29.99.

A final idea mooted was the setting up of a VIP subscription scheme. This would involve paying a one-off fee of GBP 9.99, which would then allow you to download all the Forza 3 content as it appeared, as well as being able to access a series of exclusive online events and be able to post videos and pictures online.

Although this all sounds rather good, considering that Intellisponse is a market research firm – meaning that the material above will mostly be used for focus group testing – it remains to be seen how much will make it into the finished game.

Still, we think it sounds alright – particularly if Turn 10 can manage to expand Forza 3 to embrace more forms of motorsport than either of its predecessors has (we’d be hoping for some contemporary and classic DTM action, for instance).

That said, as the sort of people who like to get hold of games as soon as possible, we’re not too sure about this 2010 re-release version – although we’re not opposed to it in theory, we’d certainly expect to see any and all additional content it may boast be made available to download.
