Eidos and Warner Bros. have announced that they are working on a “dark, action packed videogame adventure,” based on the Batman series of comics.
Dubbed Batman: Arkham Asylum, the game is currently in development with Rocksteady Studios (which also developed Urban Chaos: Riot Response), and promises to offer plenty of “intense circumstances” that will see Batman forced to use both his array of weapons, and his “intuitive detective skills” as well.
The general premise is that Batman walks into a trap set by the various imprisoned arch-villains while delivering The Joker to the titular asylum.
The events which subsequently unfold then promise to deliver “an immersive combat gaming experience.”
The story itself is being penned by Emmy Award-winning Batman writer Paul Dini, which bodes well for B:AA.
And with Warner Interactive boss Martin Tremblay promising that it’ll be a “graphically distinct and story-driven game,” it should look the part as well.
No firm release date was given, beyond that it’ll be appearing during the course of 2009 on 360, PS3 and PC.
As ever, we’ll be sure to keep you posted on further developments.
