It looks like Namco is set to dust off another one of its classic arcade franchises, with Xevious seemingly set to be given a remake.
The Japanese developer-publisher registered the name ‘Xevious Resurrection’ with the Japanese patent office on 23 October this year. No mention was made of what the game will be like, which platforms it will appear on or indeed, when it will be released.
One possibility is that the game will be a downloadable retro remake of the arcade original, akin to those already seen with Xevious’ stable mates, Pac-Man and Galaga.
These have proven to be popular in recent years, with Pac-Man Championship Edition especially enjoying strong sales on Xbox Live Arcade.
Given the age of the game and the frequency with which it pops up on other formats – the original version has featured in a number of retro packs, and is also available on Live Arcade – it would certainly be a strong contender for a future remake.
Or alternatively, it could be something else entirely. Either way, if we hear any more about it, we’ll give you a shout.
