The weekly Warped round-up

Here we are once more, with another edition of the Warped Weekly Round-up. This week sees the WGL pop its Gears cherry, two old friends become enemies once again, and Batman: Arkham City came out – and it’s too good for me to spend any more time coming up with a better introduction.

News
But first as mentioned in this week’s Community Wrap, the FIFA side of the WGL is coming together nicely for its first season with FIFA 12, and magnitude and growth of the FIFA league this season is only now becoming clear. On the singles side alone, there will be 140 matches played over the next seven-or-so weeks. The season kicks off this Monday (31 October 2011), and will be featuring many WGL All-Stars, including founder M3lmoth, head admin Devilsniper and the resident ‘shit-talker’, me. All that is left to say is a big thanks to the admins for both their previous and on-going efforts, and good luck to all contestants.

In other news, the Gears of War leagues are currently in their second week after a largely successful debut, and as always I will be here to report the results of last week’s fixtures below. You may have noticed the use of the word “largely” above, and that’s because there are a couple of issues that need to be addressed. Please bear in mind captains that your matches need to be organised in advance with the opposing team – the match must be confirmed the by the Sunday before the day of play.

Secondly is the issue of lag - and let’s be honest, when isn’t this an issue? So here’s a reminder for all: if you are experiencing lag, the second it becomes unplayable – and yes, I literally mean that second – send a private chat to the opposing captain and have the game stopped. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE MATCH as your complaint will NOT be valid. Always remember that there will always be an admin knocking around, and you can find a list on the WGL website in the Gears of War team under ‘Admins’.

In more light-hearted news, our YouTube team recently released a new video outlining a rekindled rivalry between our very own Mana and M3lmoth. Reliving their (ahem) “glory days”, the two have decided to settle an old score and in the process shut the other up – much to the joy of every member of WR. To create a sense of nostalgia the game of choice is Quakeworld, and of course the footage (which will undoubtedly be of M3l kicking seven shades of something out of Mana) will be on our YouTube Channel.

And now… on with the results!

Gears of War – Execution
Premiership
North South Divide set a precedent for the season, taking an early round difference lead at the paws of Dogs of War. ING (Inglorious – not the savings and investments firm), Muppets with Guns: Elmo and British Elite Mercenaries: Ticker Licker’s all won their first matches and sit joint-second in the league, leaving The Footsoldier Clan, Versatile Vision and The Last Shot: P joint second bottom.

Division One
Infamous Gaming: Rav, The Last shot: B, and death or Glory: Evil all won their first matches without dropping a round, and therefore lie joint top. Team 420 sit second, as their game against XGL finished 2-1. Ultimate Xbox Gamers, Fifth Wall Gaming and British Elite Mercenaries: ML lost all their matches 2-0, and are equal losers for now.

Gears of War - Mixed Modes
Premiership
The first week in Premiership seems to be real do-or-die stuff, with all games ending up 2–0 or 0–2. North South Divide, oWar (to whom may I say welcome to the WGL, and I hope you’re enjoying your stay), British Elite Mercenaries and Inglorious all won their opening matches. The Last Shot, Muppets with guns, Next Generation Gamers and The Footsolider Clan did not.

Division One
Muppets with Guns: BB and Total Revoltuion took absolute victory, defeating opponents Carry on Gaming and Versatile Vision 2-0, claiming an small – but significant – early lead. The Dogs of War and Death of Glory: Evil won their matches as well, but in much closer contest beating The Lost Unit and Virtual Talent 2 – 1 respectively.

Division Two
Similarly to the Premier League, all matches in this division ended up 2–0, splitting the division right down the middle. The Last Shot: B, Infamous Gaming: Rav, Bor7v (please do leave a comment and let me know how the Hell that name came about) and Ultimate Xbox Gamers claim their opening line ups, leaving IXXI, The Undead Heores / Intensive Care Unit, British Elite Mercenaries and Hardcore Urban Militia jointly propping up the table.

Until next time!
And that’s it for now! As always comment, tweet, like, subscribe and sign up to the TheWGL.co.uk, and a big thanks to our pals over at 360-gamer.com. Now if you’ll excuse me, some inmates are overdue a beat down’!

Word to your mothers.
