You know how last week, Sega pummelled the Xbox Live Arcade library with six old-school Master System and Mega Drive games, handily compiled into two bundles? Well, that's the story of this week's XBLA update as well, as two more Vintage Collection packs have popped up for just 800 Microsoft Points each. Whereas last week's offerings were something of a hodge-podge in terms of quality though, it's all good this week thanks to the packs being themed around two of Sega's best retro franchises: Streets Of Rage and Golden Axe. All three games from both series, cobbled together with achievements and online co-op? That's a must-have right there, especially Streets Of Rage.
Not to be left behind in the retro dust though, there's also Ubisoft's Mad Riders – an over-the-top racer packed with as much speed as it is ridiculous stunts for just 800 MSP. You can check out our review of it right here; suffice to say, it's good but perhaps not as good as we were hoping for. Oh well.
Over in Games On Demand territory, you've got a trio of titles to think about. Two are actually pretty decent, especially for younger players – LEGO Pirates Of The Caribbean and Disney Cars 2 – and come in at a fairly reasonable £19.99 each. There's also AFL Live which, if you haven't heard of it, is an Australian Football League game. Yeah, we know. And even better/worse, it's up for £39.99. Clearly, they don't want anyone to buy it then.
Meanwhile, the latest Deal Of The Week is a Popcap bonanza with a whole heap of XBLA titles getting a full 50 per cent discount. Take your pick from Plants Vs Zombies, Peggle (which we loathe), Peggle Nights (ditto), Zuma, Astropop, Heavy Weapon, Feeding Frenzy 1 & 2, Bejeweled 3 and Bejeweled Blitz for between 200 and 600 MSP a piece… a fine deal if you're into quickfire action puzzle titles. Just not Peggle, eh?
And if it's downloadable content you're after, there's some pretty decent offerings right now. You've got Harley Quinn's Revenge, the final DLC for Batman: Arkham Asylum (800 MSP), the Excessive Force pack for Prototype 2 (400 MSP), a shedload of content for the Test Drive Unlimited 2 (various prices, although we're not sure anyone even still playing it), the Rebellion Multiplayer Expansion pack for Mass Effect 3 (Free!) and the first two parts of a new quest line for Dragon's Dogma entitled From A Different Sky (80 MSP each).
Looking into the future, there's sadly still no sign of Retro City Rampage appearing (even though it was meant to be out in May) so you'll just have to look forward to next week's arrival of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and Bang Bang Racing, along with massive discounts on Borderlands and Red Dead Redemption DLC. VF5? We can't wait!
