Look, shall we just drop the charade and get it over with? You need Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. Like, now. Granted, it's priced at 1,200 Microsoft Points (although at just over £10, that's still a bargain since this Xbox Live Arcade version of VF5 is even more complete than the previously released retail version) and if you're not into fighting games, it might not be the best purchase. But for everyone else? Get it. Seriously. GET IT. And not just because we told you so.
And as much as Sega's fighting classic massively overshadows it, this week's XBLA update also features Bang Bang Racing (800 MSP) – a racer that's more serious than last week's Joy Ride Turbo, but still cute and fun enough to appeal to those who hate things like Forza. From what we've played, it's not bad… fingers crossed, we'll have a Demo'd video up for you soon.
Meanwhile over on Games On Demand, it's a double whammy of 'Why would I bother?' games this week: Ninja Gaiden 2 (yes, that's a game that came out FOUR YEARS AGO) for a staggering £39.99 and Deepak Chopra's Leela (a strange Kinect-only psychedelic experience game) for an even more ridiculous £44.99. Seriously, what the hell? Hey, Microsoft! We just paid £40 to subscribe to a year's PSPlus on our PS3s and got the promise of 45 free games over the next 12 months, including getting to download titles like Infamous 2, Darksiders, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown and Little Big Planet 2 for nothing RIGHT NOW! Got an answer to that, eh? EH? Nope, didn't think so.
Thankfully, the Deal Of The Week is slightly more promising if you haven't yet picked up all the DLC for Borderlands (all four packs are half price at 400 MSP each) or the Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption (just 800 MSP for the whole thing). Not enough? Then have SEGA Bass Fishing or Boulder Dash XL for just 400 MSP each! No, we don't know why they're in there either.
And as for new DLC, it's a week unsurprisingly dominated by Virtua Fighter 5 customisation options (one for every character at 400 MSP each or two bundles of nine characters for 1,200 MSP), new cars for Forza 4, new specialised gem packs for Street Fighter X Tekken, some odds and ends for the likes of DiRT Showdown, Soul Calibur V and Top Gun: Hark Lock, and the Assassinate The Fuhrer DLC for Sniper Elite V2 (800 MSP). Plus, more songs for the upcoming Rock Band Blitz, meaning you should have a pretty comprehensive library of rock to bang along to when the game appears in the summer.
No news yet on what's appearing next week, although there's a tip-off that Babel Rising - the XBLA version of the iPad god sim - should be here. Fun times! Still no sign of Retro City Rampage though... and yes, we're going to say that every week until the damn thing turns up. Bah.
