Since it's coming up to summer (not that you'd know it based on the weather) and there's sport everywhere right about now, Microsoft's got an event ready that should appeal to anyone who likes physical activity… oh, and free stuff too. Because everyone likes free stuff, right?
Labelled the Xbox Summer Stadium, 360 owners can look forward to eight weeks of tournaments on a variety of sporting-based titles - there's a Forza 4 content kicking off on 22 June, a week of FIFA '12 challenges starting on 29 June and then more contests covering the likes of Kinect Sports 1 & 2, Dance Central 2 (it's a sport, really!) and the official 2012 Olympic game from Sega. Sounds a bit too physical if you ask us, but then we're not exactly the sporting types.
What we are, however, is the type that likes to play online without having to pay for it, which is why this weekend's launch for the event is best of all. Essentially, it's a three-day weekend of free Xbox Live Gold for everyone, even if you're only a Silver subscriber - that means totally free access to all online gaming and multiplayer, as well as use of the media apps that are usually Gold-exclusive. Plus, there's that discount on From Dust going at the moment which is usually for Gold members only, so you might want to take advantage of that too.
Free Xbox Live Gold runs from tomorrow, Friday 15 June, until midnight on Sunday 17 June (so, Monday morning then). Enjoy it while you can, cheapskates – you'll be bumped back down to offline membership before you know it...
