Looking like a cross between Cartoon Network’s Samurai Jack and the greatest piece of motion art ever created for a drunkenly dishevelled audience, Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, what we have is one excessive arterial spray of sideways-scrolling excellence that, as they say, kicks ass in many directions. Usually in little bloody pieces of ouch.

Xbox Live Arcade goes statistic crazy this week, with two very different and yet equally stat-laden games – Shoot Many Robots and Defenders Of Ardania – hitting the service this week, along with some discounts on a whole heap of number-crunching adventure titles. Plus, three decent additions to the Games On Demand service! Well, decent apart from the prices, that is.

Everyone's favourite cartoon hitman, Shank, makes his return to Xbox Live Arcade on 8 February when Electronic Arts releases the unsurprisingly-named Shank 2. If you've played the original, you'll know what to expect – guns, chainsaws, grenades and buckets of blood – but if you haven't... well, you might want to brush up on your combat skills before the sequel arrives.
